The Ohio Epsilon chapter of Phi Delta Theta was founded on January 19th, 1875. Through out the fraternity’s time at the University of Akron, the chapter has constantly been involved as leaders around campus, even outside of Greek life. Although the University of Akron is constantly changing it’s landscape and adding on to it’s campus, Ohio Epsilon is one of the only chapter houses that has stayed where it originally was built. Currently, we are the oldest chapter on campus and the longest standing chapter on campus. It is with great pride that we have been able to carry the tradition of Fraternity life as well as the cardinal principles of Phi Delta Theta for so long at the University of Akron.
The Chapter Today
Today, the Ohio Epsilon chapter of Phi Delta Theta is thriving in many different facets. Whether it is enjoying a great social with one of the sororities on campus, playing intramural sports against other fraternities, preforming at EJ Thomas Preforming Arts Hall during SongFest, or studying with each other during finals week, we do it all. This past year has been one of the most successful years that the chapter has seen thus far. We are the proud holders of many different Greek Leadership Awards presented by the University of Akron, one being the Dean’s Cup, which recognizes the most outstanding fraternity on The University of Akron’s campus.
When it comes to creativity, we take pride in the unique ideas we bring to the table in regards to the multiple events we have on campus that are hosted by sororities and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. These ideas bring us together to create great productions, such as those we show at Songfest, allowing us to win first place with our performance of the Broadway play Annie.
All of this success stems from the strong brotherhood that we share with each other. There are many nights that are planned out for just the men of the chapter to have a good time with each other and to casually hang out, catch a game on tv, or enjoy some smores after weekly meeting.
The Chapter House
Our chapter house, which is located in the east side of campus, is something that we take great pride in. This house serves as home to 16 of our men, a common meeting ground for the entire chapter, and a great place to hang out whether it is in between classes or anytime during the weekend. The alumni of Ohio Epsilon are the foundation that this house was built on. In 2005, when the proposal for a new house was made, multiple alumni took time out of their own lives to make phone calls and plans to make this new chapter house a reality. After it’s completion in 2007, the new chapter house of Ohio Epsilon has been the home of many different SoberFest’s, Homecoming Family Days, movie nights, and tons more.
